What is telemedicine?

The innovative technology that is known as telemedicine that allows for remote diagnosis and evaluation of various conditions for patients. It uses telecommunications technology, which is a fancy way of saying that you can have a doctor’s appointment through mediums such as your phone or a video app on your computer. As such, it is an excellent resource for individuals who do not have easy access to transportation or have mobility issues. During the COVID-19 pandemic, telemedicine has proved to be an extraordinary way to maintain social distancing protocols and still to enable patients to receive medical attention.

How does telemedicine work?

Telemedicine is excellent for treating any condition that does not require hands-on medical attention and is not life-threatening. It usually works through a third-party app that facilitates an online chat and a video call between you and your doctor. At Fast Aid Urgent Care, we utilize ClockwiseMD for our telemedicine appointments. During the video call, your doctor will ask you to describe your symptoms in as much detail as possible, so that they can provide the best treatment that they can for you.

When booking a telemedicine appointment, the first landing page will ask you for some personal information, including your name, phone number, date of birth. The page will also include some questions about COVID-19, such as whether you have traveled recently, been in contact with a probable or confirmed case, and if you have any symptoms yourself. Then, you will need to click the “Get in Line” button, and a telemedicine staff will help you complete the registration. When the physician is ready to see you, they will contact you to conduct a live video chat with you. Either they will be able to resolve the issue through telemedicine, or they will advise seeing a physician in-person.
